Making Strides Forward
Back In Action
The 3 month summer break felt like an eternity and I was more than ready for the return to racing. Friday’s practice sessions were all extremely productive as we got in a ton of running and ran into no issues with the car. Both my short runs and race distance simulations went smoothly as I showed really consistent pace. Throughout every session I continued to get faster and faster.
Strong Form
On Saturday I finished Practice 1 P6 but when qualifying came around I capitalized on a big moment. Our session was shortened to just 3 laps but I managed to set up well in traffic, getting a slipstream for my fast lap, and had the tires in a perfect window. I ended up getting my best qualifying result yet with a P2 just 6 tenths off pole.
Challenges
I did not get the best of starts for Race 1 on Saturday falling back to P4, but for the first time this season I had strong race pace as I was able to keep up with the front runners. The air temperature was 100 degrees which made keeping the car cool a challenge, unfortunately, this meant I had to drop back to protect the car from any damage.
On lap 10 I felt a horrible vibration. I ended up finishing the race P6. After inspecting the car on Saturday night after the race we found no damage. It turns out there was a hairline crack in the wheel hub we missed.
During Practice 2 on Sunday my left wheel hub broke into 4 pieces causing me to lose steering and go straight off track.
I ended up finishing P6 in both the Qualifying Race and Race 2 on Sunday.
Our Best Weekend Yet
Overall I’m walking away from this weekend feeling proud. I made a significant step forward in both my qualifying and race pace, and felt more confident than ever in the car. The P2 in qualifying was just a glimpse of what is to come. With one more race left in the season, I have no doubt that we will be able to continue improving, getting closer and closer to the podium and eventually a win.
